Muir of Ord is a village in the Highland region of Scotland, sitting on the western edge of the Black Isle beside the River Beauly and roughly 15 miles west of Inverness. Its position on fertile lowlands makes it a natural local centre for surrounding crofts and farms.
The village expanded with the arrival of the 19th‑century railway and today combines agricultural and light industrial activity with commuter life. A notable local employer and visitor draw is the Glen Ord Distillery, which produces single malt Scotch whisky; community life is sustained by local shops, a primary school and regular events such as the agricultural show, giving Muir of Ord a strong village identity amid the Highlands.
