The Great Cumbrae is a compact island in the Firth of Clyde off the coast of North Ayrshire in Scotland. Just a few miles across, its low, rolling terrain and accessible shoreline make it popular for cycling, coastal walks and family day trips; the principal town is Millport, noted for a Victorian promenade, sandy beaches and a small harbour.
There are a few curious cultural and historic touches - including the diminutive Cathedral of The Isles - and a long maritime tradition reflected in local fishing, boat trips and a lively diving scene. Regular ferries from Largs keep the island well connected, and the local economy is largely driven by tourism, small-scale services and activities linked to the surrounding marine environment.
