Johnstone is a small town in Renfrewshire, Scotland, on the edge of the west‑central conurbation around Glasgow, roughly nine miles west of the city and close to Paisley. It developed through the 18th and 19th centuries as a mill and weaving centre, and reminders of that industrial past survive in the townscape, including the remains of Johnstone Castle and former mill buildings.
Today Johnstone functions largely as a commuter and residential town with regular rail links to Glasgow, a core of local shops, sports clubs and community projects (the local football side is well supported), and ongoing regeneration that has brought new housing and leisure facilities. The result is a mix of working‑class industrial heritage and quieter suburban life within easy reach of urban amenities and the surrounding west‑central Scottish countryside.
