Gartcosh is a small former industrial village on the eastern fringe of Glasgow in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It grew up in the 19th century around ironworks, coal and chemical industries and sits on key transport corridors close to the M73 and M8, with a local rail station reopened in the early 21st century that improved commuter links to the city and neighbouring towns.
Since the decline of heavy industry the village has seen regeneration of brownfield sites into business parks and housing, alongside efforts to remediate contaminated land and enhance river and woodland corridors. The result is a community that still bears visible industrial heritage while increasingly functioning as a commuter and local-service centre with active community groups and growing residential appeal.
