Muirhead is a small village in North Lanarkshire on the northern edge of the Greater Glasgow conurbation, sitting alongside neighbouring communities such as Chryston and Moodiesburn. Its position in Scotland’s Central Belt and close to the M80 gives it easy road links to Glasgow, Cumbernauld and the wider central region while still being close to pockets of countryside and local walking routes towards the Kilsyth hills.
Historically the settlement expanded with 19th and early 20th century industry - notably coal and quarrying - but today it functions largely as a residential, commuter-oriented village with local shops, a primary school and active community groups and sports clubs. The mix of suburban housing, lingering industrial heritage and nearby green space gives Muirhead a quietly local character within the tapestry of North Lanarkshire communities.
