Stow (often called Stow of Wedale) is a small conservation village in the Scottish Borders, set in the shallow valley of the Gala Water. It has medieval origins and a compact centre with an old parish church and market cross that hint at its past role as a local market and coaching stop on routes through the Borders.
Today the village’s economy is centred on agriculture, small local businesses and tourism, with many residents commuting to nearby towns such as Galashiels, Melrose or Edinburgh. Its attractive rural setting and access to walking and cycling routes make it popular with visitors, while a strong community spirit sustains regular local events and activities.
