Walkerburn is a small village in the Scottish Borders, tucked into a narrow valley that feeds into the River Tweed and backed by the rolling hills of the Southern Uplands. Its compact streets and stone-built houses give a very rural, sheltered feel while still sitting within easy reach of larger towns.
Originally built up in the 19th century as a textile and tweed-milling settlement, the village’s industrial past still shapes its character even though those industries have largely gone; today Walkerburn is known for a strong community spirit, local events and outdoor pursuits, with mountain-biking and walking on nearby forest trails around Glentress helping to support tourism and small local enterprises.
