Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood

Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood are neighbouring villages in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, set on rolling farmland at the southern edge of the Clyde valley and the foothills of the Southern Uplands close to Lesmahagow. The name Kirkmuirhill reflects a medieval kirk on a moor and both settlements expanded in the 19th and early 20th centuries with coal mining and related industries before those trades declined, leaving a landscape of older stone buildings and mining-era memorials.
