Mid Calder is a small historic village in West Lothian, Scotland, set on the banks of the River Almond and a short drive from Livingston and within commuting distance of Edinburgh. The village retains a compact centre of stone-built houses and traditional shops and is partly a designated conservation area that reflects its long history as a milling and estate settlement.
There are visible reminders of its past in the nearby estate of Calder House and former mill sites, while today it combines a strong local community with commuters, village halls, pubs and regular social events; attractive green spaces such as Almondell and Calderwood Country Park lie close by for riverside walks. That mix of history, community life and easy access to larger towns gives Mid Calder a quietly attractive, semi-rural character.
