Broxburn is a small town in West Lothian, Scotland, situated on the old route between Edinburgh and Glasgow and close to Livingston and Linlithgow. Its name comes from the Brox Burn that runs through the area, and the town sits within a low-lying, formerly industrial landscape with good road links to the M8 motorway, making it a convenient commuter base for the Central Belt.
Broxburn has a distinctive 19th- and early-20th-century heritage as a centre of the oil shale industry, with former shale works and spoil heaps still shaping local memory and some of the town’s landform. Today the economy mixes light industry, retail and local services, and there’s an active community life - from the local football club Broxburn Athletic to annual community events - reflecting a town proud of its industrial past while serving as a modern suburban hub.
