The parish of Whitchurch sits on the northern fringe of Cardiff in Wales, originally an ancient parish of Glamorgan centred on a medieval whitewashed church. Once a small farming village, it expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries into a suburban district while retaining a village-like centre with independent shops, pubs and community amenities.
Today Whitchurch is chiefly residential, with a mix of Victorian, Edwardian and interwar housing, easy commuter links into Cardiff and good local schools - notably Whitchurch High School. The area has seen redevelopment of landmark sites such as the former Whitchurch Hospital, and benefits from nearby green spaces and active local groups that give it a distinctly community-minded, family-oriented character.
