Tycroes and neighbouring Capel Hendre sit in the rolling hills of the Amman Valley in Carmarthenshire, Wales, a few miles from the larger town of Ammanford. Both grew up as small villages shaped by 19th‑ and early 20th‑century coal and industrial activity and still show that heritage in their landscape of terraced houses, old chapels and narrow lanes opening onto farmland and wooded ridges.
Today they feel like typical south Welsh village communities: fairly close‑knit, with a strong local identity and a visible Welsh language presence, local sports clubs (Tycroes has a rugby club) and community halls that host events. Economically they are largely residential and agricultural, with many people commuting to nearby towns, while offering easy access to countryside walking and the wider cultural life of Carmarthenshire.
