Hendy and Fforest are small communities in Carmarthenshire, Wales, set close to the Loughor estuary and the county boundary with Swansea. Hendy in particular expanded in the 19th century with tinplate and railway-linked industry, and you can still sense that industrial past in the terraces, chapels and street pattern; today it feels more like a commuter village with good road and rail links to Swansea and Llanelli, while the nearby coast, estuary and the Gower peninsula offer attractive countryside and walking routes.
Fforest is a quieter, more rural settlement close by - its name literally means 'forest' and the area is characterised by farmland, small woodlands and strong local community life. Culturally there’s a strong Welsh-language presence, a tradition of chapel and sporting clubs (rugby remains important locally), and an economy that has shifted from heavy industry to services and commuting, giving the two places a mix of heritage and modern residential character.
