Gorseinon is a small former industrial town on the eastern bank of the River Loughor in the west of Swansea, which grew up around coal and tinplate works and still shows that industrial heritage in its street pattern and older buildings. Today it has a compact high street of independent shops and cafés and community sports clubs that act as local hubs, while being close enough to the city for many residents to commute for work.
Penyrheol is the adjoining residential area, largely developed in the mid‑20th century with a mix of council and private housing; it’s served by community centres, a leisure centre and local regeneration initiatives, and like much of the outer city it balances suburban family life with links to nearby employment areas and services in Swansea.
