Llanelli sits in Carmarthenshire in south‑west Wales, perched on the northern shore of the Loughor estuary where it looks out over the Burry Inlet. Much of the former industrial shoreline has been reclaimed and reworked into the Millennium Coastal Park, making the area popular for walking, cycling and birdwatching, with Swansea just across the water.
Once a booming tinplate and coal town, Llanelli still carries that industrial heritage in its streets and reclaimed landscapes, but now mixes industry with leisure and retail-led regeneration. It’s a strong rugby and Welsh‑language heartland - the local club and region have deep roots, the old Stradey Park site is part of local lore and the modern Parc y Scarlets draws supporters - giving the town a distinctive cultural and social identity alongside ongoing economic change.
