Pen-y-groes and Gorslas sit in the rolling farmland of Carmarthenshire in south‑west Wales, close to Cross Hands and Ammanford. The settlements grew around agriculture and the coal and tinplate industries of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and today their setting of gentle valleys and lanes still hints at that industrial past while remaining largely rural and residential.
Both villages have a strong local identity and a lively community life - Welsh remains widely spoken, local halls and chapels play an active role, and village pubs and clubs help bind people together. Economically they combine small businesses and commuting links to nearby towns such as Llanelli and Carmarthen, with easy access to countryside walks and a quieter side of Carmarthenshire life.
