Dolgarrog is a small village in the county borough of Conwy in north Wales, tucked into the wooded, steep-sided Conwy valley at the edge of Snowdonia. The setting features a dramatic gorge, waterfalls and reservoirs above the village, making it a handy base for walking, cycling and enjoying upland scenery.
Historically the village grew around hydroelectric power and an aluminium works that used water from nearby reservoirs; it is also marked by the tragic 1925 dam collapses at Eigiau and Coedty, which flooded the village and killed 16 people. Today Dolgarrog mixes small-scale industry, visitor accommodation and a close-knit local community proud of its industrial heritage and outdoor attractions.
