The ward covering Betws-y-Coed and Trefriw sits in the upper Conwy valley of Conwy, Wales, on the northern fringe of Snowdonia. Betws-y-Coed is often described as a gateway to the mountains, famous for its Victorian stone bridges, a busy railway station and nearby cascades such as Swallow Falls, while the rivers Conwy and Llugwy carve attractive wooded gorges through the area.
Trefriw is a smaller, more tranquil village with a long industrial and spa history and the well-known Trefriw Woollen Mill, and together the communities rely heavily on tourism, outdoor recreation and local craft and hospitality businesses; there is a strong walking, climbing and cycling culture, balanced by the social effects of seasonal visitors and second homes.
