The village and parish of Llanllechid sits in rural Gwynedd, a few miles south‑east of Bangor, on the lower slopes of the Carneddau and at the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The landscape mixes upland moor, sheep pasture and small farms, with lanes and scattered hamlets rather than a single large settlement.
Historically the community grew from agriculture and had links to the 19th‑century slate industry that shaped much of the area’s economy and culture; the ancient church dedicated to St Llechid and a scattering of prehistoric and medieval sites reflect a long rural history. Today it remains a small, largely Welsh‑speaking community valued for outdoor access, views and quiet living, with many people commuting to nearby towns while local identity stays rooted in farming, hillwalking and Welsh traditions.
