Llanfaes is a small village on the eastern edge of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, tucked beside the Menai Strait opposite Bangor and a short walk from Beaumaris. Historically it was once the island’s principal medieval port and borough until the late 13th century, when Edward I’s foundation of Beaumaris shifted trade and administration away from the hamlet.
Today Llanfaes is a quiet, largely residential place with strong local Welsh-speaking traditions, valued for its coastal scenery and views across to Snowdonia. Its economy and character are shaped by nearby tourism, small-scale farming and the services centred on Beaumaris, while its shoreline and footpaths remain popular with walkers, birdwatchers and boaters.
