Cwmgwrach is a small former mining village high in the upper Afan Valley of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. It sits on the banks of the River Wrach and is hemmed in by steep, wooded hills, making it a quiet spot prized by walkers and mountain bikers and close to the trails of Afan Forest Park.
The village still shows its industrial past in rows of terraced houses and disused workings, but since the decline of coal many residents commute to nearby towns or work in outdoor recreation and tourism; a strong community spirit is maintained through local groups and small-scale amenities that mark it out as a compact, rural settlement with a proud heritage.
