The village and parish of Ystradfellte lies on the western edge of Powys in Wales, within the northern reaches of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s best known for dramatic limestone country, a string of waterfalls and cave systems in the local Waterfall Country - notably the walk‑behind cascade at Sgwd yr Eira on the River Mellte and the steep, wooded gorges carved by the River Hepste.
Historically part of Brecknockshire, the parish remains a small, close‑knit rural community where hill farming coexists with a growing tourism economy driven by walkers, cavers and nature lovers; village life centres on the church and local events, and the area swells with visitors in the spring and summer months.
