Penderyn is a small village in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, sitting on the northern fringe of the Brecon Beacons and overlooking the uplands of the Cynon Valley. Its location gives easy access to moorland walks and rugged scenery while still being close to the former industrial heartlands of the South Wales valleys.
For such a modest settlement it has an outsized cultural and economic profile thanks to the Penderyn Distillery, which sparked a modern revival of Welsh single-malt whisky and draws visitors and jobs to the area; farming and tourism also play a part. The village retains a rural, close-knit feel, set against the longer history of the Cynon Valley’s coal and industrial past, making it a pleasant stop for walkers and those interested in contemporary Welsh food and drink.
