Pontnewydd is a ward in Cwmbran, within the borough of Torfaen in south‑eastern Wales. It sits beside the Afon Llwyd and evolved from Victorian industrial roots - coal, iron and rail - into part of the post‑war Cwmbran New Town; the name literally means “new bridge” in Welsh.
Today the area is largely residential with pockets of local shopping, light industry and community facilities, and enjoys good road and rail links to Newport and Cardiff. A mix of older streets and newer housing, active community groups, schools and small regeneration projects give the ward a varied social and economic character.
