Eglwys-Brewis is a small hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan on the south coast of Wales, situated close to St Athan and the former RAF base a few miles west of Cardiff. It sits in low-lying agricultural countryside with hedgerows and lanes, and is within easy reach of the Glamorgan coast and larger villages such as Llantwit Major, giving a quiet rural feel while remaining commutable to nearby towns.
The name reflects the settlement’s ecclesiastical roots (eglwys meaning church) and the area has traditionally been agricultural; in the 20th century the nearby airfield and Ministry of Defence presence influenced local housing and employment, creating a mixed civilian and service-community character. Today Eglwys-Brewis is largely residential and rural, noted for its modest historic buildings, farmland setting and proximity to coastal and military heritage.
