Ruabon sits on the western edge of Wrexham county in north-east Wales, where a mix of red clay country, wooded estate land and heather-covered slopes gives it a distinctive look. The village lies beneath Ruabon Mountain and close to the historic Wynnstay estate, while canals and rivers nearby, including towpaths of the Llangollen Canal and views towards the River Dee valley, make the area popular for walkers and outdoor activity.
Ruabon has a strong industrial past: 19th-century coal mining and clay extraction spawned brick and tile works famous for their deep red terracotta, and traces of that heritage remain alongside modern residential life. Today it functions largely as a local community with village shops, pubs and clubs and many residents commuting into Wrexham or Chester, yet the surrounding moorland, estate woods and former quarries still give it a rural, historic character.
