Penycae is a village and community in Wrexham County Borough in north‑east Wales, sitting on the edge of the higher ground above the Dee Valley. Historically it expanded from a rural settlement as local coal and iron industries developed in the 19th century around nearby Ruabon, but it retains a largely village character with local shops, a primary school, pubs and sports clubs.
The surrounding rolling countryside and proximity to the Clwydian Hills make it popular with walkers and commuters alike, and local life still reflects a mixture of Welsh cultural traditions and practical commuter living, with active community halls and voluntary organisations keeping village life busy.
