Combe Down is an electoral ward on the southern rim of Bath, within the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset in England. It centres on the old hill village and surrounding suburbs, offering panoramic views over the city and the surrounding countryside. The ward is largely residential, with a mix of Georgian and Victorian stone-built houses, local shops and community facilities, and many residents who commute into Bath or nearby cities.
The area is best known for its historic use of local Bath stone: nineteenth-century quarries and a network of mines shaped the character of the place and later required major stabilisation works. A disused railway tunnel through the hill, the Combe Down Tunnel, has been repurposed as part of the Two Tunnels Greenway, giving walkers and cyclists a notable local amenity. Conservation areas, active local societies and independent businesses keep a strong village feel while the ward remains closely tied to the cultural and economic life of Bath.
