Harrold is a small village and civil parish in the Borough of Bedford, sitting attractively on the banks of the Great Ouse. Its riverside position, historic bridge and surrounding floodplain meadows give it a distinctly rural feel, and it sits beside the popular Harrold-Odell Country Park, where lakes from former gravel workings now attract walkers, anglers and birdwatchers.
The village has a long, largely agricultural history with the river once playing a part in local trade; today it is mainly residential with traditional pubs, a village hall and active community groups that run fetes and conservation projects. Its mix of stone and brick cottages, the parish church and easy access to nearby country lanes make it a quiet but well-connected place for those looking to be close to nature while still within reach of Bedford.
