Royal Sutton Coldfield is a substantial suburban town in the north of Birmingham, set within the wider West Midlands conurbation. It carries the “Royal” prefix as a nod to its historic links dating back to the 16th century under Bishop John Vesey, and retains a distinct identity from the city with a mix of traditional high street shops, community venues and attractive residential neighbourhoods.
The town is perhaps best known for Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe and a national nature reserve, giving the area an unusually green, rural feel for a commuter suburb. It’s a relatively affluent area with good schools, strong local clubs and events, and efficient rail and road links into Birmingham, so it combines countryside-style leisure with easy access to the city economy and cultural life.
