Kingstanding is a largely residential ward in north Birmingham, sitting between Erdington and Great Barr. It grew up mainly in the inter‑war and post‑war periods and is characterised by a mix of council and private housing, local shopping parades and community facilities, with regular bus links into the city centre.
The name is said to derive from an occasion when King Charles I reputedly stood on a local hill to review troops, and that local history helps shape a strong neighbourhood identity. The area has small parks and sports pitches nearby and, despite economic and social challenges in parts, benefits from active community groups, schools, places of worship and ongoing local regeneration efforts.
