Yardley East is a suburban electoral ward on the eastern side of Birmingham, with roots in the old parish of Yardley that was gradually absorbed into the city in the 20th century. The area is largely residential, featuring a mix of inter‑war and post‑war housing alongside pockets of light industry and small retail parades, and still shows hints of its original village layout in a few older buildings and lanes.
Locally the ward has a fairly mixed and active community served by schools, community centres and local churches, with handy bus links into the city centre and to neighbouring districts. Residents tend to rely on a combination of local shops and nearby larger retail centres for services, while green spaces and small industrial estates help give the area a varied, suburban character.
