North Portslade is an electoral ward at the western edge of Brighton and Hove, centred on the older village of Portslade and the surrounding northern suburbs. It feels like a suburban-fringe area - a mix of Victorian terraces and post-war housing, local parades of shops and community facilities, and a commuter population who travel easily into Brighton by road or rail.
Geographically the ward sits close to the rising chalk of the South Downs, with pockets of green space and a village core that still shows its medieval and industrial past (think historic church, former brickworks and the boost from 19th-century rail links). Economically and socially it’s a mixed area with small businesses, light industrial units nearby and active local groups and schools working to knit together longstanding working‑class communities and newer families moving in.
