Millom is a coastal electoral ward and small former industrial town in Cumberland, England, set by the mouth of the Duddon Estuary on the southern edge of the Lake District National Park. It grew up in the 19th century around iron‑ore mining and ironworks, and the closure of those industries in the mid‑20th century left a legacy of economic change; today the local economy is sustained by services, tourism and commuting to nearby centres.
The area is notable for its wide beaches and the nearby Hodbarrow RSPB reserve and Haverigg dunes, popular with walkers and birdwatchers, and for a lively local cultural life inspired in part by figures such as the poet Norman Nicholson. Good rail links on the Cumbrian coast line to Barrow‑in‑Furness and Whitehaven mean it remains a modest service hub with a strong community focus and ongoing regeneration efforts.
