Hartshorne is a small village in the district of South Derbyshire, in Derbyshire, England, lying on gently undulating farmland just a few miles from the former industrial centre of Swadlincote and on the edge of the National Forest. The setting gives it a rural feel with lanes, hedgerows and good walks, while still being within easy driving distance of larger centres such as Derby and Burton upon Trent for shopping and rail links.
Historically the village has medieval roots and retains a number of historic buildings and a traditional parish church, and like much of south Derbyshire it was affected by coal and clay working in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today Hartshorne is largely residential with local pubs, a village hall and community activities that foster a close-knit social life, even as many residents commute to nearby towns for work.
