Ticknall is a small village in South Derbyshire, Derbyshire, England, close to the border with Leicestershire and within easy reach of Derby and Burton upon Trent. The village retains a lot of character from its industrial past: honey‑coloured limestone cottages, disused lime kilns and stretches of the old tramway and canal works that once served the estate of Calke Abbey, whose parkland now attracts visitors and walkers.
Today Ticknall is largely a residential and agricultural community with growing interest from tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, set partly within the buffer of The National Forest. Local life feels village‑centred, with active community groups, countryside footpaths and a small cluster of businesses; historically important features and a strong sense of place make it popular for heritage walks and weekend visits.
