Marshwood is a small, quietly rural parish in Dorset, set on the edge of the shallow clay basin known as the Marshwood Vale. The settlement is made up of scattered stone cottages, farms and a small parish church, surrounded by hedged pastures, pockets of ancient woodland and narrow lanes; on clear days there are long views down towards the coast and the Jurassic Coast to the south.
Economically it remains agricultural in character - dairy and mixed farming still dominate - supplemented by a few local businesses and visitors who come for walking and the scenery. Socially the parish is small and close‑knit, with village events and traditional rural life persisting alongside more recent interest from people seeking a quieter, heritage‑rich corner of Dorset.
