Market Weighton is a small historic market town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, tucked on the northern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and beside the River Foulness. It occupies the natural low known as the Market Weighton Gap and sits conveniently between York and Hull, making it a handy base for walkers exploring the chalk hills as well as for commuters.
The town retains a traditional market‑town character with independent shops, pubs and active community groups, and its local economy remains closely linked to agriculture alongside small businesses and light industry. There are several historic buildings and a strong sense of local identity - events, clubs and seasonal shows reflect its rural heritage even though the old railway closed in the 1960s.
