Fairlight is a small village and civil parish in the district of Rother in East Sussex, sitting on the coast a couple of miles east of Hastings and west of Rye. It includes the coastal settlement of Fairlight Cove and is characterised by cliff‑top downland, shingle shore and pockets of woodland that give fine views over the English Channel.
The community is largely residential with a mix of commuters, retirees and holiday accommodation; local life centres on a village hall, the parish church and occasional community events, while tourism and small‑scale agriculture feed the local economy. The cliffs around Fairlight Cove have a long history of erosion and landslips that have shaped settlement patterns and remain a striking and sometimes contentious feature of the area.
