Coggeshall is a small historic parish in the district of Braintree, Essex, England, set beside the winding River Blackwater. Much of the centre retains a medieval street pattern and an array of timber‑framed buildings that give the place a distinctly old‑world character.
It grew rich on the medieval wool cloth trade and later on silk weaving, and you can still see reminders of that past in the abbey ruins and merchant houses such as Paycocke's House. Today it feels like a lively local community with independent shops, pubs and heritage attractions that draw visitors interested in rural history and traditional architecture.
