Halstead is a small market town and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, England, set in the Colne valley. It grew from medieval market origins into a 19th‑century textile and milling centre, and you can still see a mix of timber‑framed and Victorian buildings with former mill sites clustered along the River Colne.
Today the town combines independent shops and a modest high street with some light industry and commuter links to larger towns; community life is active, with a local museum, sports clubs and regular events, while the surrounding countryside and footpaths make it pleasant for walkers and day visitors.
