Ashdon is a village and civil parish in the district of Uttlesford, in north Essex, England. It sits close to the Cambridgeshire border amid rolling farmland and hedged lanes, not far from Saffron Walden, and retains a strong sense of history: a number of medieval buildings and the parish church survive, and local tradition associates the area with the 1016 Battle of Assandun.
Today the economy is predominantly rural, with farming and small local enterprises, while many residents commute to nearby towns and cities such as Cambridge. The village community revolves around a village hall, local pub and seasonal events, and the surrounding lanes and footpaths make it popular with walkers and cyclists, offering a quiet character and examples of traditional timber‑framed and thatched cottages.
