Newland is a village and civil parish in the Forest of Dean district of Gloucestershire, in western England, a few miles west of Coleford. It sits on the edge of the ancient woodland of the Forest of Dean, with rolling hills, sandstone and limestone outcrops and a legacy of old mine workings and quarries that give the area a distinctive, slightly rugged character.
Historically tied to ironworking, coal and stone extraction, the local economy now mixes agriculture, small businesses and tourism - attractions such as the nearby Clearwell Caves and forest trails bring visitors. Socially it feels like a close‑knit rural community with village halls, pubs and seasonal events, while surviving 19th‑century cottages and industrial remnants keep the parish’s industrial past visible in the landscape.
