The small town and civil parish of Brading sits on the eastern side of the Isle of Wight, close to the coastal villages of Bembridge and St Helens. It lies beside a tidal harbour and a sweep of reclaimed marshland and chalk downland such as Brading Down, giving a pleasing mix of farmland, wildlife reserves and accessible walking country.
Historically a market town with Roman roots, Brading is best known for the excavated Brading Roman Villa with its mosaics, while a medieval church and an old high street lend a strong sense of continuity. Today the local economy blends agriculture, small businesses and visitor-focused services, and a lively community life with clubs and seasonal events helps preserve the village atmosphere.
