Ings sits to the east of Kingston upon Hull and is largely a residential ward made up of post‑war and later 20th‑century housing. Its name reflects the low‑lying, meadowy character of the land before urban growth, and it lies close to the large suburban estate at Bransholme and other outer‑city neighbourhoods.
The area is characterised by local shopping parades, schools, community centres and pocket parks rather than a strong commercial core, and it benefits from good bus links into Hull city centre. Like many suburban parts of Hull, Ings has seen waves of community activity and local regeneration projects aimed at improving housing, services and employment opportunities while retaining pockets of green space and a strong neighbourhood identity.
