Barrow Gurney is a small village and civil parish in North Somerset, England, lying just to the south‑west of Bristol and within easy reach of Bristol Airport and the Chew Valley. It retains a strongly rural feel despite that proximity to the city, with farms, a tight-knit local community and the usual village institutions such as the parish church and village hall.
The village is best known for the Barrow Gurney Reservoirs, built to supply water to Bristol and now appreciated for wildlife and waterside walks, and its name reflects the medieval Gournay family who once held the manor. Today it’s largely residential with some agriculture, a commuter population into nearby urban centres, and a quiet, historic character that contrasts with the busier suburbs of nearby Bristol.
