Killingworth is an electoral ward in North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, in the north-east of England, just to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It’s largely residential, with a mix of 1960s–70s planned housing, newer developments, lakes and greenbelt that give it a suburban, family-oriented feel; local shops and a retail park serve both residents and commuters into the city.
Historically the area grew out of mining and engineering, and is noted for its connection to early steam locomotive development under George Stephenson at the local colliery. More recently the ward has seen regeneration projects, active community centres and sports clubs, and efforts to protect nearby open spaces, so it combines industrial heritage with a strong local community and accessible countryside on the town’s doorstep.
