Cholsey is a historic village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, in south‑central England, sitting on the floodplain of the River Thames just a couple of miles from Wallingford and within easy reach of Didcot. The surrounding landscape is largely agricultural with the village acting as a quiet commuter hub for nearby towns and rail links to Reading, Oxford and beyond.
The parish has deep roots - the parish church of St Mary’s Church contains Anglo‑Saxon and Norman fabric - and in the 20th century the author Agatha Christie lived nearby at Winterbrook House and is buried in the churchyard, which draws literary interest. Transport history is visible in the regular services from Cholsey railway station and the preserved Cholsey and Wallingford Railway, while local life continues around village halls, pubs, schools and small community groups.
