Wansford is a compact village and civil parish on the banks of the River Nene, just west of the city of Peterborough. Historically the settlement grew as a coaching stop on the Great North Road, and its compact centre still shows characterful stone buildings, old inns and a strong sense of local history.
Today Wansford combines a rural, agricultural hinterland with a commuter relationship to Peterborough and a modest tourist trade centred on the preserved Nene Valley Railway and riverside walks. Community life is lively for a village of its size, with local events, a village hall and riverside leisure making it a popular spot for both residents and day visitors.
