The civil parish of Saltburn, Marske and New Marske sits on the North‑East coast within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland in England. Saltburn is the best known of the three - a Victorian seaside resort with a long pier, a working cliff lift and pretty Valley Gardens set against dramatic sandstone cliffs and coastal walks that lead towards the North York Moors. The town has a lively arts and surfing scene and a steady flow of visitors in summer, supporting cafes, independent shops and holiday accommodation.
Marske and New Marske began as small agricultural settlements and 19th‑century mining communities and now feel largely residential, with local schools, pubs and a village community while many people commute to nearby employment centres on Teesside. Across the parish there’s a mix of seaside tourism, accessible greenspace and suburban life, giving it a distinctive blend of historic character, outdoor recreation and practical links to the wider region.
